Position Summary:
This is a high-level administrative nursing role responsible for the overall management and serves as the Director of Nursing for the Kansas Veterans Home. As Director of Nursing, you will lead a dedicated team of professional, para-professional, and non-professional caregivers, ensuring the delivery of compassionate, safe, and effective care. You will uphold the highest professional, legal, and ethical standards while helping to shape and implement facility policies that drive our mission forward.

This leadership role will touch every aspect of our nursing operations. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing service activities
- Assessing and enhancing nursing programs to meet evolving needs
- Mediating interdisciplinary concerns to promote collaboration and harmony
- Overseeing hiring, onboarding, and scheduling of nursing personnel
- Serving on internal committees to support organizational goals
- Fostering a participatory culture that empowers nursing staff in decision-making
- Developing and implementing agency policies and procedures
- Contributing to the Nursing Department budget planning
- Communicating critical resident health updates to relevant stakeholders
- Coordinating comprehensive healthcare services for all residents
- Ensuring wellness and prevention programs are in place and effective
- Delegating responsibilities to nursing supervisors with clarity and confidence
- Establishing departmental values and strategic goals
- Monitoring nursing assessments for quality and compliance
- Supporting QAPI, infection prevention, and antibiotic stewardship initiatives
- Collaborating on continuing education and mandatory training for nursing staff
- Maintaining regular and reliable attendance as a core function of the role
Compensation:
Salary Range: $110,000 - $117,000 annually
This position is FLSA-exempt and is exempt from earning overtime.
* Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Pay Range is equal to the Classified Pay Range of Grade 42.

Qualifications
- Licensing & Certification:
-
- Eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Four (4) years of experience in registered nursing.
- Be free from conviction of a criminal offense that prevents employment with the Kansas Veterans Home.
- Preferred Qualifications: (May be used to screen candidates)
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- One (1) year of experience supervising subordinate staff members.
- One (1) year of experience working with a geriatric population.
- Experience with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations demonstrating familiarity with compliance standards and quality assurance in long-term care settings.
- Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A positive work history in the medical field.
- A genuine commitment to resident-centered care.
- Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Must take and pass a drug screening within 24 hours of being offered the position.
